About Doncaster's Child Death Overview Panel

Since the 1st April 2008 Doncaster Safeguarding Children Board is required to have in place arrangements to review deaths of all children. The requirements are outlined in Chapter 5 of Working Together 2015. This stipulates that all child deaths (excluding both those babies who are stillborn and planned terminations of pregnancy carried out within the law) up to the age of 18 should be reviewed.

The primary functions of CDOP are;

-      Collect and analyse information related to the death of each child

-      Address the needs and welfare of any other children living in the household and the parents

-      To identify any modifiable factors that may have contributed to the death of the child

-      Consider the possible actions, recommendations & learning points identified through each death and how best to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in the future
